Lewis Hamilton compared the fervent Tifosi fans of Ferrari to the passionate Brazilian football supporters. Despite the overwhelming support at Monza, Hamilton, who incurred a grid penalty, expressed regret to his team as Ferrari failed to challenge for pole position at their home Grand Prix.
Due to his penalty, Hamilton was destined to start the race from tenth place. Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, chose not to benefit from Hamilton’s assistance in Q3, resulting in him securing the fourth-fastest time.
Hamilton acknowledged his team over the radio for their efforts and expressed contentment with their progress, noting they were within a tenth of Leclerc’s time. He emphasized the need to continue working on improvements for future races.
Reflecting on his experience with Ferrari, Hamilton praised the incredible fan support and energy at Monza, highlighting the unique passion and intensity displayed by the Tifosi fans. He noted that such fan dedication was unparalleled, comparable only to Brazilian football supporters.
In a bid for pole position, Leclerc briefly led the timesheets but was overtaken by Max Verstappen. Despite a strong initial lap, Leclerc acknowledged the challenge of reclaiming the top spot and expressed satisfaction with his performance.
Leclerc, who won from fourth on the grid last year, expressed doubt about repeating the feat due to increased competition and a clear race strategy. Although he considered winning again a tough task, he remained hopeful for a positive outcome in the race.
