An Irish sprinter named She’s Quality has tragically passed away in a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained during a race at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, trained by Jack Davison from Dunboyne, Co Meath, had been a prominent performer with multiple second-place finishes in Group events throughout 2025, accumulating earnings exceeding £250,000.
She entered the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint as a contender but encountered difficulties early in the race, falling behind the field. Jockey Colin Keane decided to halt her race on the back stretch as she struggled to keep up with the competition. Following this, she was dismounted swiftly, and the veterinary team attended to her on the track.
During a post-race assessment, Breeders’ Cup veterinarian Dr. Scott Hay mentioned that the jockey had expressed concerns about She’s Quality’s performance and had decided to stop her as a precaution. Despite the absence of clear signs of injury, the filly exhibited lameness in her right hind leg, prompting her transportation to a hospital for further evaluation.
Tragically, within 24 hours of the incident, Jack Davison confirmed the heartbreaking news of She’s Quality’s passing due to a severe pelvic fracture sustained during the race. Despite initial stability after the injury, the filly’s condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize her. Davison expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their prized horse and thanked the team for their dedicated care over the years.
The Breeders’ Cup also expressed condolences, acknowledging the profound impact of She’s Quality’s passing on the racing community and extending sympathies to her connections for their loss.
