An airstrike by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a three-year-old child, in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday, as confirmed by health authorities.
According to medics in Gaza, the strike occurred in the vicinity of a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claiming the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military asserted that the attack targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, alleging that Nusair was involved in orchestrating assaults against Israeli military personnel and civilians.
Hamas refrained from immediate commentary on the military’s accusation.
Despite a ceasefire endorsed by the U.S. last October that mitigated major conflicts in the region, Israeli military actions have persisted, purportedly to prevent Hamas and other Gaza-based militants from launching attacks.
Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire terms and impeding the implementation of a broader resolution advocated by U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the Gaza crisis, encompassing Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire was initiated last October, over 1,300 Palestinian casualties have been reported in Gaza by health officials, while the Israeli military has recorded the deaths of four Israeli soldiers.
