Jockeys skillfully maneuvered to avoid a potential disaster during a horse race when they had to quickly steer away from an oncoming ambulance at Evangeline Downs in the USA. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred on Saturday night.
In a usual scenario, an ambulance trails a horse race on the inner side of the track to respond to any accidents involving the horses or riders. However, in a peculiar turn of events, the ambulance found itself positioned inside the racecourse during the eighth race at 8:35 pm in Louisiana, just east of Opelousas.
All eight horses in the race had to take urgent evasive action to dodge the vehicle as they navigated around the first turn, averting potential harm to both the horses and their riders. The shocking incident resonated with fans of the sport worldwide.
Renowned commentator Kevin Blake remarked, “This might be one of the most hair-raising near misses I’ve witnessed in a horse race. The extraordinary reactions from the jockeys and horses prevented a catastrophic outcome.” US racing journalist Ray Paulick also highlighted the remarkable response of the jockeys in avoiding a collision with the vehicle on the track.
Following the incident, Gabe Prewitt expressed disbelief, stating, “Am I the only one who saw what happened in the 8th race at Evangeline? Unbelievable.” Fans were taken aback by the track commentator’s nonchalant description of the event as a “little incident on the turn” and his acknowledgment that the ambulance was not in its designated position.
Track officials have launched an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the ambulance straying onto the track, sparking concerns about the safety protocols in place at the racecourse.
