A man who orchestrated an acid attack on Katie Piper is seeking parole through a rare three-day hearing. Daniel Lynch, 49, received a life sentence in 2009 for his role in the meticulously planned attack. Following a minimum 16-year term, he is being considered for release for the first time.

Scheduled for March next year after multiple delays, the upcoming hearing will feature Katie’s victim impact statement, although her attendance remains uncertain. Lynch’s actions in March 2008 left Katie, then 24, with severe facial burns after plotting the acid assault.

Now a 41-year-old mother of two, Katie expressed concerns two years ago about Lynch’s potential release. She reflected, questioning the impact on her safety and future given the circumstances. Despite enduring over 400 operations to address her burns, Katie has made significant strides in her personal and professional life, appearing on various television programs like a 2009 documentary detailing the attack and participating in Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.

Lynch was handed a life sentence at London’s Wood Green crown court in 2009 for rape, GBH, and admitting ABH. Stefan Sylvestre, who carried out the acid attack at age 19, received a life sentence with a minimum of six years and was released in 2018.

Judge Nicholas Browne QC described Lynch and Sylvestre as embodiments of pure evil, contrasting their actions against Katie’s former beauty. Lynch’s relationship with Katie turned violent after she ended it, culminating in the acid attack orchestrated by Lynch in collaboration with Sylvestre.

A Parole Board spokesperson confirmed that Lynch’s parole review has been initiated by the Secretary of State for Justice, following standard procedures. Emphasizing public safety, the parole decision will assess the potential risks Lynch poses if released and evaluate his rehabilitation progress alongside the impact on the victims.
