Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride put on a memorable performance for the local fans on Sunday at the Target Center. She set a new WNBA single-game record by sinking 10 3-pointers in a 103-90 victory against the Dallas Wings. McBride, a five-time all-star and four-time EuroLeague champion, shot 10 for 14 from beyond the arc, tallying a career-high 43 points. The crowd’s support seemed to drive her towards the record-breaking feat, which she achieved with 2:23 remaining in the game, giving the Lynx a comfortable lead of 98-83. McBride left the court to a thunderous ovation with 1:21 left on the clock, expressing gratitude towards the fans and the team for their backing.

Reflecting on her outstanding performance, McBride shared, “Minneapolis has truly become my home, and I strive to give my best every time I step on the court. The love and support I receive from the fans and the organization motivate me to perform at my peak. I am incredibly thankful for this community and the opportunity to give back through my passion for the game.”

Prior to McBride’s record-breaking achievement, the previous record for most 3-pointers in a game stood at nine, a feat accomplished eight times before. Notably, Toronto’s Marina Mabrey had achieved this milestone twice this season, with Rhyne Howard of Atlanta also achieving it on two occasions.

McBride’s exceptional performance not only set a new individual record but also contributed to the Lynx surpassing their franchise’s single-game 3-point record. The team made 18 of 39 attempts from beyond the arc, securing their 12th win in 13 games and becoming the first team to secure a playoff berth this season.

Minnesota’s offensive prowess has been evident in their recent games, having scored over 100 points in four of their last six matches, including a 98-point performance in their victory over defending champions Las Vegas. However, it was McBride’s standout display on Sunday that stole the spotlight, leaving the crowd in awe.

Expressing her gratitude, McBride remarked, “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. It’s surreal. After 13 years in this league, returning here in the offseason was a decision filled with uncertainties. Moments like these affirm that it was the right choice.”

The Lynx’s victory, fueled by McBride’s record-breaking performance, highlights their strong form heading into the playoffs and their relentless pursuit of success.
