A new employment rights bill under the Labour government has been enacted, putting an end to the erosion of workers’ rights seen under the previous administration. The law aims to improve the lives of hardworking individuals across the UK, offering protections to over 15 million people, particularly benefiting those in low-paying and insecure positions.

Key provisions of the law include the elimination of exploitative zero hours contracts and the practice of fire and rehire. Workers will now have access to essential rights such as sick pay, unpaid parental leave, and paternity leave from day one of employment, addressing previous shortcomings that left many vulnerable employees without necessary support.
