ITV is preparing for a surge of legal actions following Janice Dickinson, a contestant on I’m a Celebrity…, announcing her lawsuit against the network due to an injury sustained during the show. The law firm representing Dickinson has been overwhelmed with inquiries from other celebrities regarding their own experiences with TV productions, particularly concerning alleged misconduct and a perceived lack of care on shows like Big Brother and Love Island.
According to sources, the celebrity-focused law firm Taylor Hampton has been inundated with calls from prominent figures seeking guidance on issues related to injuries and behind-the-scenes behavior. The firm has seen a significant increase in interest since Dickinson’s public statement, as her case has emboldened others to come forward and speak out against what they perceive as negligence within the industry.
Dickinson, a well-known supermodel, is pursuing a £700,000 lawsuit against ITV after suffering severe head and facial injuries while participating in an all-stars edition of I’m a Celebrity… in South Africa in 2023. The incident occurred when she tripped in the dark while heading to the restroom, with insiders claiming that a nightlight in the camp was not turned on. Dickinson expressed her disappointment with ITV, stating that they failed to fulfill their duty of care towards her.
The legal action taken by Dickinson has raised concerns among TV executives, who fear a potential wave of lawsuits across various shows, including Love Island, Big Brother, and The Voice. This is not the first time a celebrity has taken legal action against ITV for an injury sustained on one of their shows, as TV presenter Rav Wilding previously received a substantial sum in damages after being injured on the diving show Splash! in 2013.
