London Mayor Sadiq Khan has criticized US President Donald Trump, labeling him as racist, sexist, and Islamophobic. The ongoing feud between the two leaders escalated when Trump referred to Khan as a “terrible” mayor during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.

In response, Khan remarked that it seems he is constantly on Trump’s mind, questioning why a Muslim mayor of a diverse and successful city like London would occupy so much of the President’s thoughts. When asked about Trump’s Islamophobic tendencies, Khan stated that Trump has demonstrated racism, sexism, and Islamophobia.

Khan defended his mayoral record by pointing out the increasing number of American visitors to London, emphasizing the city’s global prominence in culture, foreign investment, sports, and personal growth opportunities. He expressed pride in London’s reputation as a vibrant and welcoming city.

Cabinet minister Pat McFadden dismissed Trump’s claim that London desires sharia law, affirming that London operates under British law. Various Labour MPs rallied behind Khan, with McFadden praising London as a significant asset to the UK and highlighting its economic and creative contributions.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting defended Khan’s inclusive governance style, emphasizing his support for diversity and public welfare initiatives. Senior Labour MP Dame Emily Thornberry praised Khan’s progressive values and rejected claims of him promoting Sharia Law in London.

MP Rupa Huq denounced Trump’s comments as falsehoods, while Rosena Allin-Khan, Khan’s successor as MP for Tooting, demanded the US ambassador be summoned to address Trump’s Islamophobic rhetoric. Allin-Khan emphasized London’s commitment to diversity and condemned bigotry, crediting Khan’s leadership for the city’s greatness.
