The shift from traditional TV to streaming continues to gain momentum as Sky introduces innovative devices like the Stream box and Glass TV, utilizing broadband to deliver live and on-demand content directly to homes instead of through a conventional dish. While Sky has been a key player in this space, other options are now emerging.

One such alternative is Freely, launched in 2024 and supported by the creators of Freeview. It offers free access to popular TV shows, sports, and movies streamed over broadband. Initially, viewers required a new TV with Freely integrated, but a recent development introduced a Freely-compatible Pleio puck, enabling access on existing televisions.

Adding to the variety, Manhattan has unveiled its maiden Freely set-top box. Renowned for its successful Freeview boxes akin to Sky Q, Manhattan is venturing into the streaming realm with the introduction of the Aero 4K TV Streamer in February. This device promises access to 60 live TV channels and over 75,000 hours of on-demand content without the need for a monthly subscription. Similar to Sky’s Stream box, content is delivered via Wi-Fi, eliminating the necessity for an aerial or satellite dish.

Powered by the acclaimed TiVo OS, the Aero not only provides access to Freely but also supports popular apps like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and YouTube. Additionally, it features TiVo+, offering approximately 400 free streaming channels and a vast library of on-demand movies and TV shows.

The Aero boasts 4K picture quality and includes voice search functionality, although it lacks the capability to record programs to a hard drive. Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, emphasized the convenience and affordability of the Aero, stating that it offers a straightforward way to enhance any TV without requiring a replacement.

The Manhattan Aero 4K TV Streamer with Freely is set to launch in February 2026, priced at £69.99, and will be sold at retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, and Amazon.
