Markham is gearing up for a thrilling weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series, including the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy race. This event marks the first time the race will be held outside Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
Spectators are encouraged to reach the event using GO Transit, York Region Transit, or via Highway 407, with parking available west of the venue. Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services to facilitate travel to and from the track. Additional bus services and shuttle options are being provided for easy access to the venue.
Residents have experienced various track construction impacts in the lead-up to the event, including limited parking at Unionville GO, road repaving, grandstand installations, and road closures on Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning.
The highlight of the race will be the IndyCar event on Sunday, featuring top drivers like points leader Alex Palou, Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talents like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also showcase their skills in the support series.
Drivers are adjusting to the new track layout in Markham, which offers smoother surfaces compared to Toronto’s bumpy roads. The challenging track with elevation changes has drawn mixed reactions from drivers, with expectations of tight corners and exciting passing opportunities.
Tickets for the weekend races are available, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions open for free attendance as part of Fan Friday, supporting Make-A-Wish Canada. Fans can expect an action-packed weekend filled with high-speed thrills and competitive racing in Markham.
