A math teacher described as “predatory” was recently prohibited from teaching for life after being apprehended while attempting to check into a Travelodge with a 16-year-old student. Waleed Nasir, 26, was detained at a Travelodge in Surrey after trying to book a room with the student, requesting a double bed. Staff promptly alerted the authorities, leading to Nasir’s arrest despite his initial denial of any wrongdoing.

Subsequent examination of explicit messages between Nasir and the student confirmed his culpability. The former teacher eventually confessed to inciting a minor to partake in sexual acts while in a position of trust, as well as three instances of engaging in sexual activities with a minor while in a position of trust.

In a sentencing last November, Nasir managed to evade imprisonment and was instead given a nine-month suspended sentence for two years. Additionally, Nasir was mandated to register as a sex offender and subject to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order.

Praise was extended to the Travelodge staff for their swift action in reporting the suspicious incident to the authorities. Surrey Police commended the employees for recognizing the signs of potential child exploitation and reacting promptly to the situation.

Following deliberations by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) last month, it was revealed that Nasir, a newly qualified teacher, engaged in inappropriate conduct with the student outside of school premises.

Described as “predatory” and “exploitative,” Nasir’s actions were deemed a severe breach of trust, leading to the panel’s decision to impose a lifelong teaching ban due to his misconduct.

Detective Constable Michael Barker, reflecting on the case, emphasized Nasir’s abuse of authority and the serious nature of his actions against a vulnerable individual under his care. Barker commended the actions of the Travelodge staff in preventing further harm and urged the public to report any suspicions of child sexual exploitation to the authorities.
