Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide assistance during a tough season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has encountered challenges adapting to the team due to an underperforming car and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix where he failed to advance past Q1 in qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place despite a comeback effort during the race. Currently, he occupies the sixth spot in the drivers’ standings and risks slipping to seventh at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his frustration with his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite giving his all on and off the track. Recognizing his struggles, Mercedes has offered personal support to the British driver. Mercedes’ chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, disclosed that they have been in discussions to assist Hamilton during this challenging phase, with Wolff accompanying him to race venues.
In a statement to CHAMP1, Lord empathized with Hamilton’s situation, acknowledging the dedication and effort Hamilton puts into his work. He emphasized the team’s support for Hamilton, citing Wolff’s involvement in providing encouragement and guidance, believing in Hamilton’s potential to bounce back stronger.
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton aims to secure his sixth-place standing in the drivers’ championship, currently holding 152 points, closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points. This race marks the conclusion of Hamilton driving the current Ferrari model, which has presented numerous challenges.
Despite the setbacks, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has urged the team to persevere for a return to success. Vasseur emphasized the need for the team to remain focused and learn from their mistakes, drawing inspiration from other drivers who have triumphed after facing adversity.
Ferrari is eager to end the season positively before turning their attention to the upcoming 2026 campaign.
