As the holiday season approaches, many are turning their attention to festive activities leading up to Christmas. Munich Airport, just a short flight away from the UK, is hosting its 25th annual winter wonderland event, featuring a 600 square meter ice skating rink and Christmas market, a tradition borrowed from the renowned Christmas markets of Germany.

The airport will be decked out with around 40 market stalls adorned with twinkling lights and wreaths, offering handmade gifts, festive delicacies, and other treats. Visitors can wander through a festive pine forest, relax in cozy huts with mulled wine, and enjoy a magical winter atmosphere.

Apart from shopping and dining options, visitors can also take advantage of the expansive ice skating rink, open daily from 11am to 9pm, at a bargain price of £4.40 (€5) for all-day access. Skate rentals are available for an additional £4.40 (€5), allowing unlimited skating time. Additionally, visitors can try their hand at curling for around £22 (€25) per hour.

The winter wonderland offers a plethora of activities for families, including ice discos on Wednesdays, Christmas-themed crafts like wreath making and ornament designing, and entertainment such as face painting, magic shows, and visits from Santa Claus on select dates.

In the evenings, visitors can enjoy live performances by regional artists and bands featuring various music genres. Additionally, a special 50-minute Christmas light tour around the airport is available after dark. This year, a new “Wish Tree” initiative allows visitors to fulfill a child’s wish by purchasing a gift from the tree and dropping it off at the designated location by 18 December.

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) will kick off the festivities on Friday, 14 November, and the winter wonderland will remain open until Sunday, 28 December. The Christmas market, free to attend, operates daily from 11am to 9pm, except on Christmas Eve when it closes at 4pm.

For those traveling from London Gatwick to Munich, flights are under two hours with fares starting at £14.49 via easyJet. The winter wonderland at Munich Airport promises a magical experience just moments after landing, making it a convenient and enchanting destination for holiday travelers.
