Airport authorities were surprised to find an abandoned aircraft “resting nose-down in the grass beside a runway” this week. Strangely, the pilot of the damaged 1972 Cessna Skyhawk was missing, and it was evident that the plane had veered off the runway following a rough landing on Tuesday.

The unoccupied Cessna N20392 was located around 5 am at Naples Municipal Airport in Florida, during a time when the airport’s control tower was closed from 10 pm to 6 am.

Upon discovering the plane, security personnel observed two individuals leaving the aircraft shortly after it landed in the middle of a grassy area at the airport, seemingly unharmed, which raised further questions.

Robin King, the airport communications director, stated, via FOX4, “We arrived around five o’clock this morning and found an aircraft in the field. Our security released two individuals from the airfield overnight, and they were unharmed. They left the scene, and that’s the extent of our knowledge.”

FlightAware data revealed that the plane made multiple circles over Fort Myers and Naples before landing at Naples Airport in Florida at approximately 2:40 am. Subsequently, one of the airport runways had to be closed due to the unexpected discovery; however, regular airport operations resumed after the disabled plane was removed from the field by about 6:30 am.

In an interview with WINK News, King expressed, “It’s an unusual occurrence. It’s quite rare and remains a mystery.” The pilot, identified as 24-year-old Brianna Brown, returned later in the day after the plane had been relocated to a hangar for inspection by a crew. Brown has cooperated with the Naples Police Department and airport operations team.

Lt. Bryan McGinn of the Naples Police Department confirmed, “We have learned that the pilot skidded off the runway and notified the staff.”

Brown, from Fort Lauderdale, rented the plane from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. A police incident report has been filed, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been informed by airport officials. King mentioned, “The FAA will conduct an investigation. It’s now beyond our control, and we aim to understand the cause.”

Fortunately, Brown did not sustain any injuries during the incident and is assisting with the investigation. As of now, it remains unclear whether Brown or the unidentified other person onboard will face any charges.
