An individual close to the royal family has expressed relief at the news that Prince Andrew has agreed to relinquish his remaining titles.

This decision comes after extensive private deliberations within Buckingham Palace on how to address what insiders have referred to as “the Andrew problem.” Prince Andrew, aged 65, announced on Friday that the ongoing accusations against him have diverted attention from the monarchy and the Royal Family’s duties. Consequently, he has consented to renounce all his royal titles, including that of the Duke of York.

His downfall began due to his longstanding association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. One of Epstein’s accusers, Virginia Giuffre, claimed that she was trafficked by Epstein to engage in sexual activities with Prince Andrew when she was 17, allegations that Andrew vehemently refutes.

Giuffre stated that these encounters took place in London, New York, and on Epstein’s private island. Prince Andrew stated that he has no recollection of meeting her and raised doubts about the authenticity of a photograph showing them together.

In 2021, Giuffre initiated a civil lawsuit in New York under the Child Victims Act. The case was eventually settled out of court the following year for a reported sum of £12 million, without any admission of guilt.

As a consequence of the scandal, Prince Andrew was initially stripped of his royal patronages and military positions and was compelled to withdraw from public engagements indefinitely.

Recent reports have raised concerns about Prince Andrew allegedly meeting with Cai Qi, a senior Beijing official linked to the China spy scandal.

A source within the palace described Andrew’s recent decision as a significant turning point. The source stated to the Express, “After a prolonged period of silence, this finally seems like closure. We can all now breathe a sigh of relief.”

Prince Andrew’s statement today read: “After discussions with His Majesty, as well as my immediate and extended family, we have concluded that the ongoing accusations against me detract from the work of the monarch and the Royal Family.

“Consistently, I have chosen to prioritize my responsibilities to my family and country. I stand by my decision five years ago to step back from public life.
