King Charles has reportedly conveyed a single-word response after Prince Andrew relinquished his titles, including that of Duke of York.
Andrew voluntarily gave up his titles after consulting closely with the King and Prince William. The announcement was made on Friday, where he also stated he would surrender the Order of the Garter title.
Despite Andrew retaining his place at the Royal Lodge due to a long-term tenancy until 2078, the King expressed satisfaction that Andrew had renounced his royal titles.
This decision by Andrew follows his increasing involvement in the case of Virginia Giuffre, who alleged being trafficked by the notorious Jeffrey Epstein. Buckingham Palace stated it would explore all options in light of these revelations.
Sarah Ferguson has also confirmed the relinquishment of her Duchess of York titles. Although Andrew will continue to hold the Duke of York title, he will not actively use it.
In a statement, Andrew mentioned that he would not participate in family Christmas celebrations at Sandringham this year. He emphasized prioritizing his family and country over continued distractions from his royal duties.
Andrew’s association with Epstein led to his downfall, highlighted by an email exchange in 2011 following Epstein’s prior conviction. The Mirror has reached out to Buckingham Palace for any comments on the matter.
