In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the iconic movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million. This sale marked the highest price ever paid for a prop used in a “Star Wars” film, as confirmed by the auction house.
Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber that played a pivotal role in severing Skywalker’s hand. The Darth Vader lightsaber, famously used in the dramatic duel at Cloud City where the iconic line “I am your father” was uttered, will be a highlight of the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction hosted by Heritage Auctions on November 12.
Anticipated to garner at least $1 million, the Vader lightsaber was also featured in “Return of the Jedi.” Alongside this iconic piece, over two dozen lightsaber props from “Star Wars” Episodes I to IX, as well as various other productions from the expansive universe created by George Lucas, will be up for bidding at the auction.
Among the coveted items are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to fetch a minimum of $10,000. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is estimated to exceed $100,000 in value.
The auction will also feature unique memorabilia such as a Yoda puppet hand utilized by Frank Oz in the character’s original appearance in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Anthony Daniels’ signed personal third-draft screenplay for the 1977 original “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
