European golfer Shane Lowry expressed his relief at securing the Ryder Cup victory for Europe, describing the last few hours as the most challenging of his life. Despite Luke Donald’s team starting with a significant lead, late wins by the American team narrowed the gap, leading to a suspenseful finale.

The decisive moment came when Irishman Lowry secured a crucial half point by sinking a putt on the 18th green, ensuring the Samuel Ryder trophy returned to Europe. The former Open champion’s victory sparked jubilant celebrations among spectators.

Reflecting on his triumph with Sky Sports, Lowry shared his emotional journey, emphasizing the significance of the Ryder Cup to him personally. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to achieve such a milestone and acknowledged the fierce competition from the US team.

Lowry’s hopes for an outright victory were realized when Tyrell Hatton secured another half point on the 18th green, sealing a hard-fought 15-13 win for Europe at Bethpage Black. The final match concluded with a missed putt by Sam Burns, granting Scotland’s Robert McIntyre the final half point needed for the European team’s victory.
