Nintendo has unveiled a sneak peek of the highly awaited The Legend of Zelda movie, providing a glimpse of the iconic main characters’ appearance. The creator of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, has shared images from the movie’s filming in New Zealand, showcasing the lead characters, Princess Zelda and Link.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Miyamoto generated excitement among fans by revealing three images from the production. Notably, enthusiasts have honed in on a specific detail in the images.

Miyamoto stated, “This is Miyamoto. The live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is currently being filmed in a picturesque natural environment, featuring Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Filming is progressing smoothly for the movie’s scheduled release on May 7, 2027. We appreciate your patience and anticipation for the film’s premiere.”

The news has sparked enthusiastic reactions from supporters on various social media platforms, with a prevailing sentiment of approval. Feedback from users has highlighted the faithful representation of the characters and costumes, drawing parallels to different eras of the game series.

The production in New Zealand, led by director Wes Ball, is ongoing, with leaked footage hinting at Dichen Lachman’s portrayal of Impa, a significant character from the Zelda universe who serves as Zelda’s protector and assistant.

The upcoming 2027 film marks Nintendo’s official return to live-action filmmaking after almost four decades since the ill-fated 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie. Nintendo’s venture into movies has predominantly been through animated adaptations, with occasional forays into live-action films, including the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie slated for 2026.

The Legend of Zelda movie will be a significant milestone in Nintendo’s cinematic endeavors, offering fans a fresh take on the beloved franchise in live-action format.
