Jake Reiner has experienced a distorted sense of time since the tragic events of December 14, 2025. In an emotional interview with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles, Reiner described the past eight months as feeling like an eternity while also passing in the blink of an eye. This turmoil stems from the devastating loss of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were discovered fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles residence that fateful Sunday. Subsequently, their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with their murders.

Reflecting on the heart-wrenching ordeal in his first sit-down interview released on Thursday, Jake Reiner recounted the moment his sister, Romy, informed him of the tragic discovery. The shock and disbelief were palpable as he grappled with the reality of his father’s death and his mother’s disappearance.

Nick Reiner, now facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths, pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 20. The indictment, unveiled on August 12, revealed unsettling details alleging Nick’s premeditated attack on his parents, shedding light on his documented mental health struggles and substance abuse issues.

The Reiners had previously collaborated on a film, “Being Charlie,” in 2016, inspired by Nick’s personal battles with addiction. The poignant project brought father and son closer, with Rob Reiner describing it as his most intimate work to date.

In the interview, Jake Reiner candidly expressed the complex emotions he harbors towards his incarcerated brother, Nick, lamenting the loss of half his family and grappling with feelings of anger and helplessness. The tragic events have left him questioning the unfairness of it all, as he navigates the painful reality of moving forward without his parents and with his brother behind bars.
