Sri Lanka, while not exactly a hidden treasure, has seen a significant increase in interest lately, with Travel Republic reporting a 72% surge in holiday bookings to the South Asian nation in just the past month. Influencers on social media have been sharing their travel experiences in Sri Lanka, with followers enthusiastically describing it as a “magical place.”
Featuring a scenic coastline, lush greenery, and a diverse range of wildlife including elephants and leopards, Sri Lanka appeals to adventurous travelers for obvious reasons.
The historic fortress of Sigiriya, believed to have been built by King Kasyapa, stands as a remarkable landmark. Known as Lion Rock, this site gets its name from a massive stone lion sculpture at the entrance to the grand citadel.
Although the climb can be challenging, the sweeping views from the top are rewarding. To avoid crowds, it’s advisable to arrive early, especially since the site can get busy. Additionally, Udawalawe National Park offers a fantastic setting for wildlife enthusiasts to spot various animals like water buffalo, mongooses, jackals, and spotted deer on safari tours.
