The Manitoba RCMP has labeled the death of a four-year-old girl and the severe injuries sustained by two young toddlers at a residence in southern Manitoba as suspicious. According to a news release issued on Tuesday, Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers responded to a call at a home in Long Plain First Nation after emergency responders reported a young child in distress with injuries around 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Tragically, the four-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, two other children in the residence, aged one and two, were transported to the hospital. One of the toddlers was in critical condition initially, while the other was stable. Fortunately, both children are now reported to be in stable condition.
The RCMP has taken charge of the investigation due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the four-year-old and the serious injuries sustained by the other two children. Superintendent Rob Lasson, who heads Manitoba RCMP major crime services, expressed deep concern over the incident, labeling it as “extremely troubling.” He emphasized that the community will be seeking answers regarding the events that transpired within the household.
Superintendent Lasson assured residents of Long Plain that the RCMP is collaborating closely with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service and community leaders to address the situation.
