In 2025, the gaming industry offered a diverse array of options that catered to a wide range of preferences. From popular titles like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 for first-person shooter enthusiasts to Pokémon Legends: Z-A for Pokémon fans, the year was packed with exciting releases. Role-playing game lovers also had their share of new experiences with titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds hitting the shelves.
Personally, I delved into more than 35 different games this year. Among them were ongoing favorites like Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Destiny 2, as well as new discoveries that quickly became cherished additions to my gaming library.
While opinions on the best game of the year may vary, I’ve compiled a list of my top six games for 2025, ranked from bottom to top.
Starting off the list is “Death Stranding 2,” a sequel that generated mixed reactions due to its predictable storyline compared to its predecessor. Despite its Game of the Year nomination, the game fell short of delivering the same level of satisfaction.
On a different note, “Little Witch in the Woods” offered a unique experience in the life-simulation genre, providing a soothing and enchanting gameplay that stood out among other titles I explored this year.
“Split Fiction,” a cooperative adventure following two authors trapped in their stories, showcased impressive storytelling and engaging gameplay mechanics that made it a standout experience worth trying with a trusted partner.
“Dispatch” seamlessly blended animated TV show elements with interactive gameplay, presenting a gripping narrative with strategic resource management aspects that kept players engaged throughout its episodic release.
Claiming the second spot is “Silent Hill f,” a title that expertly captivated players with its eerie atmosphere and intriguing storyline, paying homage to the original Silent Hill series while offering a fresh experience for newcomers.
Topping the list is “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” a turn-based RPG that resonated deeply with fans of the genre, delivering a captivating storyline, challenging gameplay, and emotional moments that solidified its place as the standout game of 2025.
As the year comes to a close, anticipation is high for upcoming releases in 2026, including the Fable reboot, Resident Evil Requiem, and the highly awaited Grand Theft Auto VI.
