The Toronto Raptors have announced that they will honor Kyle Lowry by retiring his jersey number, No. 7, during a ceremony following their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 10. Lowry will join Vince Carter as only the second player in the team’s history to receive this recognition at Scotiabank Arena.
Having retired at the age of 40 in July, Lowry concluded his remarkable 20-year NBA career by signing a one-day contract with the Raptors. Expressing his anticipation for the event, Lowry emphasized his deep connection to Toronto, stating that it has always been his home and that retiring as a Raptor is a significant personal milestone for him.
Reflecting on his time with the team, Lowry acknowledged the special bond he shares with his teammates, the organization, the city, the fans, and all of Canada. He highlighted their collective achievement of winning the NBA championship in 2019, underscoring the importance of sharing this moment with his loved ones and the Raptors community.
During his nine seasons with the Raptors, the six-time NBA All-Star made a lasting impact by leading the team in career assists, steals, and three-pointers. The upcoming jersey retirement ceremony will celebrate Lowry’s legacy and contributions to the franchise.
