A woman in business passed away following a liposuction procedure in Turkey that left her in a coma. Milena Mancini, aged 50, died in the intensive care unit of Istanbul’s ISU Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa hospital, 20 days after undergoing the weight loss surgery at a private clinic.
Mancini, who traveled to Turkey with her daughter from Italy, experienced severe abdominal pain about 36 hours post-surgery. It was reported that her intestine was perforated during the procedure, leading to an infection.
Her uncle, Luigi Di Palma, shared that complications arose during the operation, potentially causing the infection. Family members were unaware of the surgery until she was admitted to intensive care, prompting some to fly to Turkey to be with her.
Mancini’s health deteriorated, and she remained in a coma until her passing. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in Italy upon the repatriation of her body.
Hailing from Isola del Liri near Rome, Mancini managed an estate agency after a career as a financial consultant. She left behind her husband, daughters, father, and sisters. Luigi described her as a determined and capable individual, known for her warmth and ability to connect with others.
In a separate incident, a British woman, Ruby Khan, aged 30, tragically died following a liposuction and tummy tuck surgery in Turkey. The surgery at Medical Point International Hospital in Izmir showed initial promise but took a turn when Khan’s heart rate escalated during the procedure. Despite efforts to stabilize her, Khan passed away the following day. A full inquest is scheduled for a later date.
