A racehorse trainer from Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, faced disqualification after a confrontation with a racing steward. Garry Lunn, known for training over 500 winners, including more than 100 at the Dubbo racecourse, was found to have engaged in improper behavior during an inspection.
In a RacingNSW inquiry, it was revealed that Lunn had verbally attacked the steward, Xavier Dalton, using offensive language and insults. Lunn’s aggressive behavior, which included derogatory remarks towards Dalton’s professionalism, led to charges of obstructing and hindering the steward from performing his duties.
Despite denying the charges, Lunn was ultimately found guilty and received a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second. The disqualification period was set to run concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
The incident highlighted the importance of maintaining respectful conduct towards officials in the horse racing industry.
