A tragic incident occurred where a young head chef from the UK, working on a luxury yacht, drowned after accidentally falling into the water at a port in France following a night out with colleagues. The deceased, Flinn Sessions, a 22-year-old individual from Dorset, had been employed on the Atlantico for two months before the unfortunate event took place at La Ciotat near Marseille on June 9, 2023.
During an inquest at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court, it was revealed that Flinn had been socializing with crew members and other yacht staff, visiting multiple bars and consuming alcoholic beverages before the incident occurred. Witnesses mentioned that his friends had even requested the waiter to stop serving him more alcohol at a certain point.
Surveillance footage captured Flinn leaning against a bollard on the quayside in the early hours of the morning before accidentally falling into the water and attempting to swim towards the yacht. Tragically, he was discovered lifeless in the water later that morning. Post-mortem examinations conducted in France and the UK confirmed that his cause of death was drowning.
The coroner, Brendan Allen, concluded that Flinn’s demise was a result of an accident, emphasizing that the excessive alcohol consumption during the night out led to the fatal fall into the water. The CCTV footage indicated that Flinn was alone at the time of the incident, showed no signs of ill health, and his death was deemed unintended.
