With over a decade dedicated to combating corruption globally, I transitioned into a parliamentary role in 2024. Throughout my experiences in countries like Ukraine and Nigeria, I witnessed the detrimental impact of corruption on democracy, public funds, and its facilitation of organized crime.

Regrettably, the United Kingdom has descended in the global corruption rankings to an unprecedented low. The escalating corruption within our borders demands immediate attention.

Recent years have seen a series of damaging incidents tarnishing our reputation, ranging from the controversial COVID contract allocations benefiting political donors to lobbying controversies implicating former Prime Minister David Cameron. The acceptance of anonymous crypto donations by Reform further compounds these issues.

While the scandal involving Baroness Mone and PPE Medpro defrauding taxpayers may appear isolated, corruption is also thriving openly on our streets. Illicit practices like tax evasion and money laundering fuel the proliferation of illicit businesses across the nation, sparking rightful outrage among law-abiding enterprises and workers.

In my constituency, the prevalence of anonymously owned foreign properties serves as ideal safe havens for global corrupt leaders and regimes. These properties often remain vacant, exacerbating the housing crisis and undermining community cohesion.

My decision to pursue a parliamentary role stems from a commitment to rectify these pervasive issues.

It is crucial for the government to address corruption comprehensively to rebuild public trust in our political system, countering the populist narrative that implicates all individuals in corruption.

The allocation of budgetary support by the Chancellor to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in combatting illicit activities on the streets is a positive step. Targeting elusive company directors who evade tax responsibilities upon receipt of bills is imperative.

The government must now advance efforts to transform London from a hub of illicit financial transactions into a global beacon for anti-corruption initiatives, necessitating an ambitious action plan.
