As the fall season approaches, it appears that many in the UK are eagerly welcoming the transition from summer. With the onset of darker nights, a majority of Brits find joy in cozying up under blankets or enjoying a hot beverage after a long day. Notably, TV personality Angela Scanlon also embraces this change.

Scanlon, along with her walking group named ‘Hot Messers,’ recently collaborated with Costa Coffee for a leisurely stroll through Epping Forest to commemorate the arrival of autumn and the reintroduction of Costa’s Maple Hazel range. During the outing, she expressed her fondness for the autumn season, stating, “I absolutely love autumn, and not just because it complements my hair.”

Describing autumn as a time that encourages slowing down, Scanlon highlighted the appeal of crunchy leaves, serene sunsets, and the sudden inclination to wear knitwear. A study conducted by Costa Coffee, surveying 5,000 adults, revealed that a significant portion transition into a ‘cosy comfort seeker’ as soon as autumn sets in. Brits are inclined to cozy up indoors, indulging in activities like lighting candles, savoring comfort food, and listening to the rain outside.

Among the top 20 autumn favorites identified by the study are the sound of crunchy leaves underfoot, reading good books, and engaging in puzzles or games during evenings. The research also unveiled that over half of autumn enthusiasts tend to romanticize the season, associating it with nostalgia and introspection.

Furthermore, nearly 40% of individuals enjoy dressing for autumn, citing the opportunity to blend style with comfort or don chunky boots as key factors. On average, autumn enthusiasts consume four more hot drinks per week compared to the summer months and are eager to try new seasonal hot beverages upon release.

For many, seasonal drinks play a significant role in their autumnal coffee shop visits, with 15% expressing particular delight in them. Gennaro Pelliccia, a spokesperson for Costa Coffee, echoed Scanlon’s sentiments, emphasizing how autumn evokes feelings of reflection and comfort, with a hot drink serving as a simple yet meaningful ritual that enhances the season’s essence.

Costa Coffee’s autumn range aims to capture this essence, encouraging individuals to slow down and appreciate the moment amidst the seasonal transition.
