The Foreign Secretary emphasized the urgency of providing aid to the people in Gaza without delay, calling on Israel to remove restrictions on essential supplies. Yvette Cooper is set to travel to Jordan to witness the backlog of crucial aid at the border, including British-funded provisions being blocked from reaching Gaza.

During her first trip to the Middle East as Foreign Secretary, Ms. Cooper is advocating for the swift release of vital supplies to Gaza. She highlighted the critical need for assistance, citing issues like man-made famine and malnutrition among children. The UK-provided aid held in Jordan must be expedited for delivery to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Discussions were held between the Foreign Secretary and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on securing long-term peace post the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. Both countries expressed support for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully.

Ms. Cooper engaged with volunteers at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to address the reconstruction of Gaza’s healthcare system. Additionally, she met with influential Saudi women and announced a £6 million funding allocation for life-saving healthcare for women in Gaza, particularly focusing on emergency birth kits.

The Foreign Secretary is scheduled to visit a school to meet girls and a hospital where children previously received NHS care after being evacuated from Gaza. She will also observe the training of Palestinian security forces based in the West Bank during her visit to Jordan.
