Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as per sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Radio-Canada. The upcoming visit, initially reported by the Globe and Mail, has been independently verified by two sources. It is anticipated that Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada may involve two different stops.
Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada took place in December, during which he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump regarding efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to provide any comments on the anticipated visit.
In related news, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned that several nations, including the U.S. and China, are prepared to assist in facilitating a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, Putin emphasized that ultimately, the resolution of the conflict must come from the two countries directly involved — Russia and Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to all those involved in the peace process and expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a settlement.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, indicated his belief in a renewed momentum in peace efforts with increased political and diplomatic engagements across various global capitals. While he did not provide further details, he encouraged reporters to stay updated with the latest developments.
Following 4½ years of the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II, both sides have rarely expressed optimism about peace prospects. Their last meeting for U.S.-mediated discussions occurred in February.
