In a thrilling match in Ottawa, the Vancouver Rise made a strong statement by defeating the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action. Alex Lamontagne shined in her Vancouver debut, scoring two goals, while Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, with a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise. The team dominated the second half, scoring four goals in quick succession, sealing the victory at TD Place.
Despite Elise Bell scoring for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, it was not enough to thwart Jessica Wulf’s shutout bid. The Rise’s impressive performance moved them into fourth place in the league, one point ahead of the Halifax Tide, with seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. The Rapid, still leading the league, sits at 33 points, three ahead of the Montreal Roses, with 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
The Rise showcased their dominance with a slight possession advantage of 53% to 47% and outshot the Rapid 17-8, with 11 shots on target compared to the hosts’ 3. Vancouver also secured four corners compared to Ottawa’s three, and both teams received two yellow cards during the match.
Looking ahead, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will visit AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
