Max Verstappen escaped a penalty following an unusual incident at the Hungarian Grand Prix as stewards investigated his release during FP2. The Formula 1 champion was summoned after throwing a Red Bull towel onto the track, resembling a previous incident involving Lando Norris at the Miami Grand Prix. McLaren and Norris were spared consequences that day after removing items from the cockpit. Verstappen received only a warning from F1 stewards for the incident.

Verstappen clarified that the towel accidentally slipped into the cockpit, leading him to safely dispose of it. Stewards noted the potential safety risk but deemed the situation less severe compared to dangerous objects left in cockpits, resulting in a team warning.
