Doctors at Sawai Mansingh Hospital in Jaipur, India, were faced with an unusual case when a 34-year-old man was brought in due to severe stomach pain. The man, accompanied by concerned family members, was experiencing such discomfort that he struggled to eat or drink.

Upon conducting a scan, medical professionals were shocked to discover a watch lodged in the man’s oesophagus, along with iron fragments, nuts, and bolts obstructing his large intestine. A three-hour operation was necessary to remove these foreign objects, including the watch, through a small incision in his abdomen, as captured in startling footage.

Fortunately, the patient is now recovering well after the surgery. This incident is not isolated, as similar cases have been reported before. In one instance, a 20-year-old woman in Taipei, Taiwan, had a fountain pen stuck in her stomach, causing significant pain and hindering her ability to eat and focus on studies. Prompt medical intervention was crucial to prevent potential life-threatening complications.

In a separate incident in 2019, doctors had to extract stones, bottle caps, and coins from a 54-year-old man’s stomach in a bid to alleviate his anxiety. The patient had ingested these objects over time, leading to severe pain and bloating. Surgical removal of the 4.4lbs (2kg) mass of foreign items was necessary to address the man’s condition.

These cases serve as cautionary tales about the dangers of ingesting foreign objects, highlighting the importance of seeking medical attention promptly for any unusual symptoms or discomfort.
