A mother fell from the second-story balcony of an Airbnb rental during a holiday in Paris, France, and was discovered the following day, turning her vacation into a nightmare. Raina Heverin, 42, sustained severe injuries when she fell from the balcony of her accommodation in Paris on April 26. Her brother found her injured in a courtyard and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she remained in a coma for nearly a month.

Her husband, Michael, revealed that Raina may have fallen while experiencing a nightmare or sleepwalking after a day of shopping. Raina suffered multiple injuries, including a broken arm, a broken hip, and brain stem lesions affecting her mobility and speech, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

After being in the hospital for over two months, Raina emerged from her coma on May 17. She was eventually transferred back home to Liverpool for ongoing treatment. Raina is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation to regain basic skills such as walking and talking, as she suffered significant neurological damage from the fall.

Michael emphasized the challenges his wife faces in her recovery journey, noting that it may take years for her to physically resemble her former self. Raina, a successful recruiter and co-founder of SupplyWell teaching agency, is aiming to receive specialized brain injury rehabilitation at Oak Vale Gardens in Broadgreen.

A fundraising campaign has been initiated to support Raina’s ongoing therapy needs, with her friend Rachel Bryan highlighting the financial burden of rehabilitation sessions and necessary equipment. Michael acknowledged the resilience of their young children in coping with the situation and expressed gratitude for their adaptability and bravery. The family visits Raina daily and focuses on maintaining a positive outlook during this difficult period.
