“13-Year-Old Raises $21K for Make-A-Wish Canada”

Date:

A 13-year-old from Cape Breton, Jake Campbell, alongside his family, raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada by running a hotdog stand and receiving generous donations. Last year, they collected $3,000 through hotdog sales and aimed to double that amount this year, successfully achieving their goal.

The hotdog stand, set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., was stocked with donated supplies from No Frills and Wonder Bread. In addition to the proceeds from hotdog sales, people also contributed cash donations to support the cause.

Hollie Quick, a senior development officer for Make-A-Wish Canada in Nova Scotia, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support received in Sydney. She mentioned that Campbell’s fundraising efforts last year earned him an award dedicated to a wish child who had passed away, motivating him to surpass his previous achievements this year.

With the funds raised by the Campbells, Make-A-Wish Canada will fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia on their waiting list. Past wishes have ranged from creating accessible outdoor spaces to family trips, benefiting not only the children but their entire families.

Jake Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, as it impacts not just the children but their families as well. Looking ahead, Campbell plans to continue his fundraising efforts with even greater ambitions.
