Ryder Cup star Henrik Stenson is set to face uncertainty in securing spots in specific DP World Tour events, following his hefty fine for joining the breakaway LIV Golf group. The Telegraph reports that a newly undisclosed regulation will impact Stenson’s eligibility in tournaments like the BMW PGA Championship, Dubai Desert Classic, and the Scottish Open due to changes in qualification criteria.

Previously, renowned players such as Stenson would have been granted exemptions for the Rolex Series events under the legends category. However, due to reclassification, players in the top four of the Tour’s career money list have now been relegated to Category 11a, significantly affecting their standings.

Stenson, ranking seventh in career earnings with over £28 million, was ousted from LIV Golf in August and recently returned to the tour after serving a suspension. This rule alteration also raises concerns for other golfers like Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Paul Casey regarding their tournament qualifications.

Despite his setbacks, Stenson remains hopeful, acknowledging the ups and downs of professional sports. There is a possibility that Stenson could still receive invitations to elite tournaments, but reports suggest that at least one LIV player has been denied participation in an upcoming event.

In a contrasting outcome, Rory McIlroy, who refrained from joining the breakaway league, clinched victory at the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, securing the Harry Vardon Trophy for the fourth consecutive year. Reflecting on his achievement, McIlroy expressed pride in surpassing golf legend Seve Ballesteros and his aspirations to set new records in European golf.
