Sky Q continues to be a leading premium TV platform even after a decade since its launch. This highly popular set-top box offers access to premium channels, streaming services like Netflix, and the ability to record programs to an internal hard drive. Additionally, households can enhance their viewing experience by adding Mini boxes for multi-room entertainment.

While Sky Q remains a top choice for TV enthusiasts, it is likely to face new competition from an upcoming upgrade to Freesat. Freesat, known for providing subscription-free live TV via satellite dishes, is expected to introduce improvements to its service.

Recent observations by the team at Cord Busters reveal that the current 4K Freesat recorder is becoming scarce in online markets, hinting at an imminent release of a new device. Manhattan, a reputable brand for free-to-view devices, has confirmed the development of a next-generation Freesat box, set to launch soon. According to Alex Arbab-Zadeh, COO of Manhattan TV, the new 4th generation recorder, tentatively named the Manhattan S4-R 2TB Freesat 4K TV Recorder, is on the verge of release. This device is rumored to support simultaneous recording of up to four programs and feature a large 2TB hard drive, offering ample storage space and full 4K resolution for superior picture quality.

The forthcoming Freesat box is expected to utilize a satellite dish for live TV reception and may also support connectivity to broadband for accessing various apps like BBC iPlayer and Netflix. Further details about the device are awaited, but for those seeking TV entertainment without ongoing fees, this development is worth keeping an eye on.
