EE, a company under BT ownership, is launching a new feature called Smart Search on its TV devices to simplify the process of finding something to watch among the plethora of channels and streaming options available to UK households. This feature is designed to allow users to search for content based on mood, themes, plot details, or quotes, rather than specific titles. For instance, users can say phrases like “Marty McFly,” “Great Scott,” or “sci-fi” to locate the movie “Back to the Future.”
In addition to Smart Search, EE is also introducing Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that further assists viewers in narrowing down their viewing options by providing personalized recommendations based on mood, preferred genres, and themes. This tool aims to streamline the decision-making process, particularly for families looking to choose a movie for a Saturday night.
Luciano Oliveira, the Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, emphasized the significance of these new features in simplifying the viewing experience for households. EE is proud to offer these conversational, AI-powered search capabilities, positioning itself as the first pay-TV service in the UK to provide such advanced search functionalities.
According to technology analyst Paolo Pescatore, the faster content discovery enabled by these features enhances the overall viewing experience, especially in a landscape where audiences are inundated with numerous content choices. Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices coming soon.
