Strictly Come Dancing has been in the spotlight for negative reasons lately, and the announcement of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman leaving the show at the end of the current season only adds to the drama.

Despite the controversies surrounding the show, Tess and Claudia have been a consistent presence, guiding the program through challenging times.

Since 2023, Strictly has faced various scandals, prompting the show’s producers to work diligently on rebuilding its reputation. Allegations ranging from professional misconduct to a drug scandal and subsequent police involvement have marred the BBC’s popular Saturday night show.

Recent reports revealed that the BBC involved the police following allegations of drug consumption by two stars. The network engaged legal experts to investigate the claims, with former contestants, professional dancers, and crew members being asked to share any concerns they might have.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they received allegations of drug-related offenses and are conducting further investigations to determine whether any criminal activities occurred.

Speculations are circulating that Strictly officials have offered rehabilitation opportunities to their stars and are considering implementing random drug testing during the upcoming tours, known for their lively after-parties.

Just before the new season premiered in September, a Strictly star was arrested on suspicion of rape and non-consensual intimate image abuse. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed for legal reasons, is under police scrutiny as investigations continue.

BBC representatives refrained from commenting on the ongoing police investigation, emphasizing their commitment to addressing serious complaints appropriately.

Incidents of misconduct have been reported in previous Strictly seasons, resulting in dismissals. In 2023, professional dancer Giovanni Pernice faced allegations of bullying, which were partly upheld after an investigation. Similarly, dancer Graziano Di Prima was dismissed for alleged misconduct toward his partner during rehearsals.

Notably, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans faced backlash during the UK tour for making inappropriate comments, leading to his removal from the show.

In a joint statement on Instagram, Tess and Claudia announced their decision to leave Strictly Come Dancing at the end of the current series, expressing gratitude to the BBC and the show’s team for their support.

The departure of the long-standing hosts comes amidst a series of controversies plaguing the iconic dance competition, signaling a significant change for the beloved show.
