As much of the United Kingdom prepares for warm weather this weekend, Freeview users may face disruptions due to a high-pressure system that is bringing sunshine to the region.

Television signals are sensitive to the current atmospheric conditions, posing challenges for those attempting to access TV content in the coming days. The BBC has highlighted that high pressure can lead to two primary issues affecting TV signals. It can weaken signal reception and allow external signals to interfere with local services.

According to the BBC, high pressure, often associated with warm weather but not limited to specific seasons, can create signal problems. It can result in a weaker signal from local transmitters being pushed higher into the atmosphere and interference from distant transmitters affecting reception.

The warm conditions and high pressure are forecasted to persist until Monday, prompting Freeview to issue essential advice for its extensive viewer base.

Freeview has cautioned viewers that disruptions to TV reception may occur from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, 2026, due to the impact of high pressure on the signals used by Freeview.

During this period, viewers are recommended not to retune their TVs. Normal reception is expected to resume once the high-pressure system moves on.

Although weather-related disruptions like these occur periodically, there are alternative ways to continue enjoying favorite programs.

For those with newer smart TVs featuring internet connectivity, switching to Freeview Play enables access to live or on-demand content online instead of relying on traditional aerial reception.

Freeview has highlighted that internet-connected TVs with channel apps can still provide access to services such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and Channel 5.

Additionally, viewers can utilize the Freeview mobile app, available for free download, as an alternative viewing option.

Another solution is Freely, a streaming platform supported by the same group behind Freeview and Freesat. Freely delivers channels via broadband rather than aerial transmission, ensuring immunity to weather-related disruptions.
