Gail’s bakery chain has officially announced that ten of its locations will remain open for business on Christmas Day. Additionally, customers visiting these bakeries on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. The chain will operate as usual on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
In a statement on Instagram, Gail’s expressed that some of its bakeries will be welcoming customers on Christmas Day as a cozy spot for coffee, bread, and a friendly atmosphere. Patrons stopping by will be treated to a free mince pie as a token of appreciation for spending part of their day at Gail’s.
Gail’s recent expansion plans include opening 40 new stores across England, expanding beyond London. During the previous financial year, the chain launched 36 cafes, including its first ventures in the southwest region of England. The upcoming 40 stores are scheduled to open by the end of February 2026.
Financial data released by Gail’s shows a revenue of £278 million for the fiscal year ending in February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. However, pre-tax losses rose to £7.8 million due to operational expenses and staffing costs related to new store openings.
With over 4,000 employees as of February, Gail’s witnessed a significant increase in staffing levels compared to the previous year following a recruitment campaign. The company’s wholesale division supplies baked goods to various supermarkets, including Waitrose and Ocado.
Gail’s signature sourdough loaf is priced starting at around £4.80, with the retail sector identified as the fastest-growing and most profitable segment within the company. Emphasizing the competitive market, Gail’s acknowledges the importance of offering innovative and high-quality food in appealing bakery settings.
A company spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the strong growth achieved, attributing it to the rising demand for nutritious, high-quality food and the support of local communities. Gail’s looks forward to sustaining this positive trajectory by expanding purposefully and enhancing access to quality food offerings.
