Australian cricket legend Matthew Hayden’s daughter expressed gratitude towards England star Joe Root for preventing her father from fulfilling a bet to strip naked. Root achieved his first century in Australia at the Gabba, marking a significant milestone in his Ashes journey after 12 years.

The former England captain’s stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 135 runs from 202 balls after being dropped early in his innings, not only anchored his team’s batting but also saved Hayden from the embarrassing wager he made. Hayden had pledged to walk around the MCG naked if Root failed to achieve a century on this tour, a promise that was averted by Root’s impressive display.

Grace Hayden, a commentator, publicly expressed her relief on Instagram, making a symbolic gesture before exclaiming, “Thank God.” She captioned her video with gratitude towards Root for saving their eyes from the potential nudity display by her father.

Acknowledging the situation, Hayden admitted his nervousness and humorously congratulated Root for his achievement, emphasizing the personal stake he had in the century milestone. He highlighted the immense relief felt by his wife and daughter, who would have been the most affected by his bet.

Meanwhile, Root’s former captain Alastair Cook commended the England batsman for his outstanding innings under pressure, hailing him as one of England’s greatest cricketers. Cook praised Root’s performance as crucial for the team and acknowledged his consistent improvement and ability to excel in challenging situations.

The series of events surrounding Root’s century not only showcased his cricketing prowess but also brought a mix of humor and relief to Hayden’s family, ultimately ending in a lighthearted and memorable outcome.
