Alanis Morissette has initiated legal proceedings against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate scheme to extort the Canadian singer-songwriter by threatening to falsely implicate her in drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to hire her for an extended period.
In a lawsuit filed in California, Morissette alleges that Keren Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation’s Israeli operations, demanded to be employed as a tour director for 15 years and receive substantial compensation. Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, asserting that she will not succumb to coercion and is taking legal action to expose and hold Urinov accountable for her actions.
The incident in question occurred in July 2025 when Morissette, along with Urinov and their team, was traveling from the U.K. to Spain for a concert. At the airport, Urinov claimed ownership of a bag that was flagged by British authorities, leading to her temporary arrest on suspicion of carrying marijuana and xylazine. Urinov later admitted ownership of the bag, presented her medical marijuana license, and was subsequently released after questioning.
Following the tour, Urinov allegedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a long-term contract with lucrative terms and threatening legal action if her demands were not met. Morissette also raised concerns about Urinov’s management of the tour, citing instances of financial mismanagement and undisclosed past criminal activities.
Despite her reluctance, Morissette felt compelled to take legal action against Urinov to prevent further extortion and manipulation. The singer is now seeking a trial by jury to address the issues raised in the lawsuit. Requests for comments from Urinov and Morissette’s representatives have not yet been responded to by both parties.
