The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported that a 47-year-old man lost his life in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland on Tuesday. The authorities were called to the scene shortly after 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday morning. The tragic incident occurred near Gullbridge, also referred to as Gull Pond Bridge, situated between Badger and South Brook.

Upon police arrival, both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The man driving the eastbound vehicle, aged 47, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital for further treatment, where they remain under care.

The police response led to the temporary closure of a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook for several hours on Tuesday. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the authorities to determine the cause of the collision.
