A British tourist, aged 56, tragically passed away in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet when the railing of a hotel gave way. Another holidaymaker, aged 54, was also involved in the incident and sustained serious injuries in the Costa Teguise resort in Lanzarote. The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individual was taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am when emergency services were alerted to the fall from a significant height inside the hotel. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard responded to the scene promptly.
Local reports indicate that the railing that collapsed was located in an elevated section of the hotel complex. An investigation has been initiated by the Civil Guard to determine whether negligence in the maintenance of the railing or the hotel’s security played a role in the tragic event.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Office expressed condolences, stating, “We are providing support to the family of a British man who has died and to the family of a British man who has been injured in Spain.”
In a separate incident in August, a 22-year-old British tourist suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of a hotel building in Ibiza. The incident took place at the Marco Polo hotel in the San Antonio party resort.
