BT has introduced a new method for internet access, offering more than just connectivity. The latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router from the company will soon be available in UK households, providing enhanced connection and additional security features.

The router incorporates technology that can automatically identify unsafe websites, alerting users to potential malware or online threats. Moreover, it has the capability to detect hacker attempts to access smart home devices, like internet-connected cameras, and prevent suspicious activities in advance.

Users can monitor identified threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature on the MyBT app, empowering households to enhance their online security and preempt cyberattacks.

In addition to security enhancements, the Smart Hub 3 focuses on performance. It supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, extending signal coverage across the home and minimizing dead zones in weaker areas.

Reportedly, the Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek, minimalist design with a small BT logo at the center.

Notably, the router supports Wi-Fi 6 instead of the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard seen in some competitor devices, including EE routers. While Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability, many current devices do not yet support it, making Wi-Fi 6 more than sufficient for most households, representing a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.

To obtain this new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to all new customers, with potential upgrades available to select existing users.

Distinguishing between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6 enhances wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 goes further with wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, particularly beneficial for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups. While Wi-Fi 6 remains a robust choice for most users presently, Wi-Fi 7 presents a more future-proof solution.
