“Canadian Missing in Nepal Floods Found Safe”

Date:

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has announced that one of the 30 Canadian citizens and permanent residents who went missing following the devastating floods in Nepal’s border region with China has been located and confirmed to be safe. The individual had been unreachable due to communication disruptions but was able to establish contact on Tuesday.

The flash floods occurred a week ago when a glacier collapsed in the Himalayan border area between Nepal and China. The catastrophe resulted in significant damage and loss of life, with over 1,100 fatalities reported and more than 3,900 individuals still unaccounted for. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has highlighted that approximately 590 foreign nationals from 39 different countries are also missing.

In response to the crisis, Canada is set to dispatch over 18,000 emergency supplies from Canadian Red Cross reserves to the affected region, in addition to the $5 million in humanitarian aid already pledged by the government of Ottawa.

Drone footage captured the aftermath of the disaster in Devighat, Nepal, revealing the destruction caused by the flash floods. The recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities work to locate and assist those impacted by the tragedy.
