Additionally, Canada clinched the sole spot in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2028, the final phase of qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Key players for Canada included Kayla Alexander, who contributed 14 points along with four rebounds and three assists, and Agot Makeer, who scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting while also tallying three rebounds and three assists without any turnovers.

The Canadian team dominated the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, defeating Senegal, the Philippines, Mexico, and New Zealand before claiming victory over the host nation in the final match.

Head coach Nell Fortner expressed pride in the team’s performance, highlighting the successful integration of young players and veterans. Syla Swords scored 12 points, and Yvonne Ejim achieved a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds, along with two assists and a block. Ejim stood out with a game-high efficiency rating of 22 and a plus-32 rating.

Fortner attributed the team’s success to their defensive strategy, emphasizing their focus on limiting the opponent’s three-point shots, which proved effective in stifling Mexico’s offense. The team’s solid defense translated into strong offensive plays, leading to a resounding victory.
